Surin Beach nightlife, restaurants, hotels, shopping
Surin- Surin Beach is home to a serious controversy at the moment. There are some illegal restaurants that are occupying government land (Incidentally HM the King owns all beach land). In Mid 2011 the government moved to have these restaurants and illegal structures knocked down, but were given a reprieve at the last moment by a local politician. This beach is also notorious for being a beach where you do not want to park in what appears to be a public spot, but is in fact claimed by the local parking tuk tuks and private cars. In early 2011, a daughter of a very prominent Bangkok politician parked in what was marked as a public spot, yet she was harassed and threatened. She eventually had to call her father in Bangkok and within 15 minutes police were swarming over Surin beach to have a word with the culprits. Now onto the beach itself. This is a fantastic swimming beach during
high season with incredibly clear water. However during the low season,
this is one of the most notorious beaches in that there are very strong
rips and the water level gets very deep very quickly.
Places to stay in Surin- Just north of Surin Beach is the Amanpuri resort and what was known as the Chedi until this year, is now called the Surin Phuket. There are also a number of private villas for rent on the hillside that overlook Surin beach as well as there are a number of lower cost alternatives within a km or two of the beach itself. Other places in Surin include Twinpalms Phuket Resort, the Chava Resort,Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach, which was formerly known as the Surin Beach Resort, the Surintra Resort, and Manathai Hotel and Resort. Nightlife in Surin- Surin beach is becoming the place to be seen if that is what you are looking for. Stereo Lab is Surin Beach’s newest place to enjoy a great night out right on the beach. Stereo Lab features DJ's playing the latest and greatest from R&B, hip hop, electro, classic to funky house. If you want to relax, head upstairs where you will find private lounges.
