Phuket surfing the waves
Surfing- Believe it or not, Phuket can get some big waves during the low season. In the high season, all the beaches are more comparable to a lake instead of an ocean. As little as 10 years ago, there would be a maximum of 10 surfers in the water at one time, and usually not more than 2 or 3 at any particular break. Now it is not unheard of to see over 50 people out on a small day at Kata, while Karon now can have 15-20 surfers. Other popular surf breaks in Nai Yang up by the airport, Nai Harn in the south, and Kata Noi Beach next to Kata Beach. When the tide and swell is right, Kalim is a world class right hand point break with dead coral just below the surface.
